Guangzhou, August 30 - The Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organising Committee (GAPGOC) promises to provide a high standard of volunteer services for the Games. Invited by the Games Communication & Promotion Department of GAPGOC, three volunteers attended a press conference on Monday (August 30), sharing their experience and visions.

GAPGOC holds a press conference on August 30.

All three young men - test event volunteer Chen Zhihang, city volunteer Zhao Xinliang and disabled volunteer Yang Zhiyong - expressed their eagerness to serve the Games and present a positive image of Guangzhou to the world.

"Providing volunteer services to disabled people, we must regard them as ordinary citizens - but not just ordinary ones," said Chen, a third-year student from Sun Yat-sen University who had helped disabled spectators during a Boccia test event for the 2010 Asian Para Games. He emphasised the importance of taking into consideration the psychological need of people with disabilities and treating them as equals.

Zhao, a student from South China University of Technology, works as Leader of the Beijing Lu Volunteer Station and is among the first batch of city volunteers for the Guangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games. He has been making great efforts to encourage more citizens to get involved in services for the disabled people. He also pays a lot of attention to enhancement of disabled friendly infrastructure across Guangzhou.

A group of disabled volunteers have joined in the services for the Asian Para Games and Mr Yang is one of them. He has been active as a member of the Medical Squad of the Guangzhou Young Volunteer Association for seven years and is now involved in medical services for the Asian Games and Asian Para Games. He is happy to get in touch with the society and discover the value of himself while helping others. The veteran wishes more disabled people would become volunteers and keep surpassing themselves.
