Guangzhou, August 2 - As Guangzhou is heading into the final prep phase to welcome the Guangzhou Asian Para Games slated for December 12 - 19, Wan Qingliang, Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality, went on a tour across the city to inspect barrier-free facilities in railway stations, shopping malls and Asian Para Games venues on July 31.

Mayor Wan, along with other officials from Guangzhou Municipality, first came to Guangzhou East Railway Station, then the Teem Plaza and competition venue for Games Wheelchair Tennis.

Some local residents and athletes with disabilities were also invited to join the tour and experience a smooth operation of the barrier-free facilities in the city as the organiser expected suggestions on improvement.

In Guangzhou East Railway Station, the inspection team followed the whole process from entering the station, buying tickets, customs clearance, taking elevators, using toilet facilities and taking the train.

Eighty percent of checkout counters in the Teem Plaza will be equipped with tables measuring lower than normal ones so as to accommodate customers with disabilities.

Mayor Wan listened to different kinds of suggestions during the tour and encouraged to foster a loving environment in the city by hosting an Asian Para Games; barrier-free facilities in public places should be on a par with international standards.
