An Epee fencing athlete, Abdul Rahman Razali qualified for the Asian Para Games in Guangzhou from Dec 12 to 19.
National Sports Council (NSC) paralympic officer Hassan Basri Che Harun said Abdul Rahman ranked 23rd out of 36 participants at the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Warsaw which concluded on Sunday.
"Although the Asian ranking and quota had yet to be issued, we believed Abdul Rahman met the qualifying mark for Guangzhou," he said when contacted by Bernama Friday.
Besides Abdul Rahman, the national squad would also be made up of Mohd Zamrin Kassim and Mohd Fauzizaldi Jusoh, both would vie for the Sabree event.
In the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup, after winning two matches in the preliminary round, Abdul Rahman went down 6-15 to a Belarus exponent while two other Malaysian athletes were ousted in the preliminary round.
Hassan Basri said the Guangzhou experience would put the national squad in a good stead in preparation for the world's biggest paralympic games, the London Paralympics 2012.
Malaysia may not compete in the Paris Para World Cup from Nov 10 to 13 as it is too close to the Guangzhou Asian Para Games.
