Anti-Doping Rule Violation of Egyptian powerlifter

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) today (June 9) announced an Anti-Doping Rule Violation, which occurred at the occasion of the second FAZAA International Powerlifting Competition in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Egyptian athlete Rania Alaa El Din Morshedy (Powerlifting) returned an adverse analytical finding (Oxandrolone and its metabolite Epioxandrolone, Class S1.1.a) which is included in the 2010 Prohibited List and consequently prohibited under the IPC Anti-Doping Code, which has adopted the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC).

According to the IPC Anti-Doping Code, it is each athlete's personal duty to ensure that no prohibited substances enter his or her body. Furthermore, each athlete is responsible for any prohibited substances found in their bodily specimen, regardless of how it entered their body.

In accordance to the IPC Anti-Doping Code (Article 10.2), two years ineligibility was imposed on Ms El Din Morshedy as a result of this offence being her first anti-doping rule violation, commencing 29 March 2010, the day of the anti-doping rule violation.

In addition and in accordance with the IPC Anti-Doping Code (Article 9 and 10.1), all individual results obtained by Ms. El Din Morshedy from 29 March 2010 onwards shall be disqualified with all of the resulting consequences including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes.

As a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC), the IPC remains committed to a doping free sporting environment at all levels. The IPC, together with the International Federations and the National Paralympic Committees, established the IPC Anti-Doping Code (January 2004) to prevent in the spirit of fair play, doping in sport for Paralympic athletes. The IPC Anti-Doping Code is in conformity with the general principles of the WADC.(The End)
