Guangzhou, May 28 - The Chefs de Mission Seminar of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games kicked off in Guangzhou on Friday (May 28).

Senior officials attending the opening ceremony included Huang Huahua, Governor of Guangdong Province and Executive President of the Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organising Committee (GAPGOC), Lv Shiming, Vice Chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), Executive President of the National Paralympic Committee of China and Vice President of GAPGOC, Li Ronggen, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province and Vice President of GAPGOC, Lin Musheng, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province and Vice President of GAPGOC, Wan Qingliang, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, Deputy Secretary of Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality, Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC), and Xavier Gonzalez, Chief Executive Officer of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The opening ceremony of the Chefs de Mission Seminar was hosted by Xu Ruisheng, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality and Executive Deputy Sectary General of GAPGOC.

Delegates from different countries and regions

The Chefs de Mission Seminar of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games opens on May 28.

Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin said this Chefs de Mission Seminar will be a milestone in the history of the Asian Para Games. He pledged that the APC will continue to make joint efforts with GAPGOC to stage an Asian Para Games as splendid as the 16th Asian Games.

Mayor Wan also addressed the opening ceremony and assured the delegates from different countries and regions that preparations for the Guangzhou Asian Para Games have been well on track in various aspects, such as venue construction, competition organisation, Games services, broadcasting, information technology, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Volunteering, promotion and city operations. He looked forward to fruitful exchanges between the delegates and GAPGOC.

On behalf of GAPGOC and the National Paralympic Committee of China, Mr Lv welcomed the delegates from the Asian Paralympic family and thanked their support.

During the two-day seminar, GAPGOC will announce to the delegates policies and procedures for participating in the Games and invite them to visit some competition and non-competition venues. They will also witness the unveiling of Asian Para Games Commemorative Woods in honour of Asia's highest-profile Paralympic event.

On Saturday afternoon, the APC and GAPGOC will hold a joint press conference for the seminar.

The Chefs de Mission Seminar enjoyed an honourable chance to welcome the following distinguished guests of Chen Guo, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality and Deputy Secretary General of GAPGOC, Jia Yong, Member of the CDPF, Executive Vice President of National Paralympic Committee of China and Deputy Secretary General of GAPGOC, and Malini Rajasegaran, APC Secretary General. Also in attendance were delegates representing National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from 41 countries and regions in Asia, officials from the APC and its Executive Board, representatives of the IPC and International Sports Federations, officials from GAPGOC, as well as observers and media from home and abroad.
