May 24 - With a vision to enable the country's disabled population to become thriving members of the Paralympics Movement by achieving sporting excellence, a Paralympics Sports Awareness Show was organised recently.
The event was organised by the National Paralympics Committee of Pakistan (NPCP), in collaboration with Serendip Productions, which was attended by a large number of corporatists, members of the parliament, diplomats, bureaucrats, philanthropists, laureates, sports personalities and members of civil society.
A movie, based on the Paralympics Movement and its development in Pakistan, was also shown on the occasion. Later, a play "The Man Without a Name", written by David Shellan, was staged that highlighted "freedom" - the fundamental right of a human being, as freedom is what the disabled population of Pakistan essentially need by means of accessibility, rehabilitation, sports and recreation.
NPCP was founded and run by a group of volunteers dedicated to the cause to create sports and physical culture amongst the disabled population of the country and achieve various goals, set to facilitate and rehabilitate disabled persons.
Established in December 1998, NPCP is a registered NGO, duly recognised by the Government of Pakistan as the only body with the mandate of dealing with sports for the country’s disabled and represent Pakistan at the International Paralympics Committee.
