The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) delegation, led by president Datuk Zainal Abu Zarin today (May 11) visited and inspected venues of the coming Asian Para Games slated to be held here in December.

The delegation, comprising members from the sports, classification, media, venues and information technology committees, ended its 3rd Coordination Commission meeting here with visits and inspection to some of the venues which are currently being prepared for the Games.

The team, which also included a specialised team from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), also visited the Games' main village which is currently under the last phase of construction.

Among the venues inspected were venues for boccia, sitting volleyball and football. The delegation also took a tour at the athletes' village and apartments and provided some comments and recommendations to the organising committee. Work at the Games village is expected to be completed in June.

The extensive village, among others, offers various facilities which comply to needs and requirements of athletes with a disability including in the areas of accessibility and safety. Nineteen sports will be contested in the Games with an expected total of 3,000 athletes and 2,000 officials.

The 3rd Coordination Commission meeting ended on a positive note with both APC and GAPCOC agreeing to some of the outstanding and pertinent issues. "It was a fruitful meeting, many issues were resolved but some (other unsettled issues) would need further discussion and finalised in the coming weeks," said Datuk Zainal.

Datuk Zainal expressed satisfaction over the preparation of venues and athletes village, saying that except for some minor issues, GAPGOC has executed all plans according to the advice given by APC.
