The opening and closing ceremony of the Asian Para Games scheduled in the city of Guangzhou has been approved at the 3rd Coordination Committee meeting, held at the Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organising Committee (GAPGOC) headquarters May 11.
Both ceremonies, which are set to be a historical and inspiring show, are scheduled to be held at main Games stadium here. Details of the ceremonies will be revealed at a later date.
The Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games, which offers 19 sports, will take place from December 12 to 19 with around 3,000 athletes from 41 member countries and regions expected to take part.
The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) delegation, led by its President Datuk Zainal Abu Zarin, and GAPGOC, has agreed to the details and plans mapped out by the latter during the last day of the Coordination Commission meeting.
Several other outstanding issues were also ironed during the meeting including the status of several sports and events which athletes can take part.
"I'm happy that the opening and closing ceremony would be held in an elaborate and grand manner as this would reflect the benchmark and status of the future Games.
Indeed, Guangzhou is doing a great job in preparation work and I thank the city and all parties and authorities involved for all the work that has been done so far," said Datuk Zainal.
