The South Korean government has reaffirmed its full support to PyeongChang's bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2018.

A special Government Support Committee, hosted by the country's Prime Minister, Un-Chan Chung, held a meeting dedicated to PyeongChang 2018 and the measures to be implemented in support of the bid. The meeting was also attended by relevant Government ministers, the Co-Chairmen of the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee, Yang-Ho Cho and Jin-Sun Kim, and the President of Korean Olympic Committee, Yong-Sung Park.

The Co-Chairmen of PyeongChang 2018 presented a report to the Committee highlighting the progress of the bid, which was followed by an in-depth discussion about the plans to start regional infrastructure improvements ahead of schedule. These major improvements include the construction of the express railroad between Wonju and Gangneung, the area that will host the Olympic skating competition. Additional improvements include upgrading access roads to other Olympic venues to ensure safe and fast travel for the Olympic Family and winter sports fans.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Chung expressed the government is supporting PyeongChang 2018 and the potential impact of hosting the Winter Games in South Korea to help promote winter sports across Asia.

Co-Chairman Yang-Ho Cho said: "For a long time it has been our nation's dream to host the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang. We will make every effort to bring good news to the Korean people when the 2018 Host City decision is announced in July next year."

Co-Chairman Jin-Sun Kim said: "The South Korean government has made our bid to host the Winter Games in 2018 one of its top priorities. We are delighted that all levels of government have offered their absolute commitment and support for the PyeongChang 2018 bid."
