Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree on "ensuring security during the 22nd Winter Olympic Games and 11th Paralympic Winter Games in the city of Sochi," said the presidential press service on Sunday (May 17).
The decree envisions imposing reinforced security measures during the Games, including tightened control over land and sea borders, according to the Kremlin website.
The decree also instructs the setting up of an interdepartmental emergency center responsible for implementing such security measures, which is set to start operation from January 2012.
Measures enlisted in the document are among the most important elements of Olympic preparations, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak.
The Sochi Olympic Games are due to be held in 2014. (The End)
