The curtain rises on training for Asian Para Games

Guangzhou, May 17 - The Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organising Committee (GAPGOC) officially appointed 18 training bases for the upcoming Games on Sunday which will conduct training for GAPGOC staff and volunteers.

Officiating officials at the plaque-awarding ceremony were Xu Ruisheng, Executive Deputy Secretary General of GAPGOC and Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality, Gu Shiyang, Deputy Secretary General of GAPGOC and Guangzhou Municipality, and Kang Decheng, Vice Chairman of Guangdong Disabled Persons' Federation, together with other officials from GAPGOC, as well as representatives of the 18 training bases, the disabled and volunteers.

Xu, on behalf of GAPGOC, offered sincere congratulations to the 18 Games training bases at the event, and encouraged them to develop an excellent training plan for the Games.

The 18 training bases are mainly made up of public institutions governed by the Guangzhou Disabled Persons' Federation, education organisations for disabled people and medical stations in each district of the Guangzhou city. They, under the guidance of GAPGOC, will bear the responsibility to launch a series of training courses for GAPGOC staff and volunteers, and the training programme will range from the consciousness of a barrier-free environment, knowledge and skills necessary to serve the disabled to medical classifications, which try to enable GAPGOC staff and volunteers to have a better understanding about the mentality and daily life for people with a disability.

Soon after the plaque-awarding ceremony, the first training course was delivered at the Guangzhou Administration Centre for Paralympic Sports.
