Guangzhou continues to be the No. 1 city in Guangdong Province. The results of the Second National Economic Census shows that Guangzhou accounts for about one tenth of Guangdong's total population and more than one fifth of the province's total economic output.
According to Xing Xiaowei, Deputy Director of Guangdong Provincial Price Bureau, in 2009 Guangzhou accounted for 23.3% of Guangdong's GDP, the highest share among all cities in province, and was home to 10,258,300 registered residents, about 10.7% of the province's sum total. Guangzhou's statistics have a direct impact on the province's statistical indicators.
The sixth national census is slated to kick off at midnight on November 1. Guangzhou has a large migrant population and more than 10 million registered residents.
