Guangzhou will soon launch "community-based basic public health service lists and service packages", which were envisioned at this year's public health work conference. The Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau is currently seeking public input on the plan, which calls for the provision of nine major categories of public health services, including free healthcare services for children and women.
Wang Junjie, Director of Grassroots Health and Women's Care at the Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau, said that if the plan is approved, community-based medical organisations will provide selected basic public health services for local residents free of charge, and that the services will be funded by the government. The plan is expected to be implemented during the first half of this year after the public consultation process.
The public health services to be provided include health archive management, health education, children's care, women's care, family planning consulting, elders' health management, vaccination, contagious disease reporting and management, chronic disease prevention and control, and holergasia management.
