Guangzhou, February 23 - The Guangzhou Municipal Government has put the Asian Games and Asian Para Games on top of its agenda this year, according to Mayor Zhang Guangning's Government Work Report yesterday at the 18th session of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Committee of the 11th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Zhang also serves as the Vice President and Secretary General of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC). He said 2010 is the year of the Asian Games and Asian Para Games, which will be a big test for Guangzhou. Local authorities will double their efforts for "bluer sky, cleaner water, smoother transport, nicer buildings and a more beautiful city". Enterprises which fail to meet emission standards or other environmental requirements will be moved out of the urban area.

The Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games will be held in November and December respectively.
