The Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organising Committee (GAPGOC) signs a memorandum of understanding with Red Cross Society of China on serving the Asian Para Games.

A signing ceremony was held at Guangzhou Asian Games Sports and Culture Centre. Officiating guests included Hao Linna, Vice President of China Red Cross, and Ye Xiquan, Deputy Secretary General of GAGOC. In line with the memorandum signed, China Red Cross is expected to provide first aid training to Asian Para Games volunteers, disseminate first aid knowledge among the host city and co-host cities, set up Red Cross Volunteer Service Stations during Games-time and wear Red Cross logo at the competition venues.

Hao said "Partnership between the Red Cross and National Olympic Committees dates back to the 5th Olympic Games held in Sweden in 1912 when the Swedish Red Cross joined to serve the Olympic movement. In the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, more than 70,000 volunteers of China Red Cross worked for the Games."

"The Guangzhou Asian Para Games is another international mega-sporting event to be held in China following the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and GAPGOC will pair with China Red Cross to be fully prepared for the Asian Para Games. GAPGOC Medical Services Department is anticipated to work closely with Red Cross Society of China, Guangdong Branch of Red Cross Society of China and Guangzhou Branch of Red Cross Society of China and nail down detailed working schedules, including promotions of pandemic disease prevention knowledge and Games-related rescue knowledge into communities, and first aid training for the general public," continued Ye.
