Richmond-based Helijet International announced Tuesday (December 29) it has won a contract to provide air ambulance services for the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The contract, which will see Helijet dedicate two helicopters to Olympic air ambulance duties, is with B.C. Ambulance Service, but will be operated separately from Helijet's existing contract to provide provincial air ambulance services, the company said in a news release. The Sikorsky S-76 helicopters are at Helijet's Vancouver International Airport facilities being set up for their Olympic duties with one aircraft to be stationed at Whistler near the athletes'village and the second to be stationed at Cypress Mountain's Olympic freestyle ski venue starting in late January through the end of March.(The End)
