
The second Co-ordination Commission Meeting of the Guangzhou 2010 Asia Para Games was held in Guangzhou, China from 10-11 December. Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC), Xavier Gonzalez, Chief Executive Officer of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Jia Yong, Vice President of the National Paralympic Committee of China, and Xu Ruisheng, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, attended the meeting, which was hosted by Gu Shiyang, Deputy Secretary General of Guangzhou Municipal Government.
The Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games Organising Committee (GAPGOC) gave detailed presentations about the progress of preparations for the Games. During various sessions a range of topics were discussed, including the organisation of competitions, construction of venues and barrier-free facilities, broadcasting and media services, accommodation, catering, transport, classification and the Chef de Mission Seminar.
The APC and IPC were satisfied with the preparations for Guangzhou 2010 and gave some further suggestions for the work ahead. Xavier Gonzalez said: "This meeting is an excellent opportunity for a fruitful exchange of information. We are pleased with the progress made so far. The organisers are doing a wonderful job and I am confident that it will be spectacular Games here in Guangzhou in 2010."
The highlight of the second Co-ordination Commission Meeting was yesterday's One-Year Countdown to the 2010 Asia Para Games. During the grand ceremony held at Panyu Square in Guangzhou and themed "Sunhsine Life", invitations to participate in the Guangzhou 2010 Asia Para Games were extended to all of the NPCs in Asia.
The ceremony was co-hosted by the General Administration of Sport of China, the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the People's Government of Guangzhou Municipality and GAPGOC.
