One year to go for the Guangzhou Asian Para Games

Guangzhou, December 13 – Themed "SUNSHINE·LIFE", a grand gala performance was held at Panyu Square in Guangzhou on Saturday night to celebrate the one-year countdown to the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games, which will be held in Guangzhou on December 12, 2010.

Officiating guests included Huang Huahua, Executive President of the Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organising Committee (GAPGOC) and Governor of Guangdong Province; Wang Xinxian, Executive President of GAPGOC, President of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) and China Paralympic Committee; Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC); Lv Shiming, Vice President of GAPGOC and CDPF; Xiao Min, Vice President of GAPGOC, Assistant Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China and Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee; Zhu Xiaodan, Vice President of GAPGOC, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of CPC and Secretary of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of CPC; Li Ronggen, Vice President of GAPGOC and Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, and Zhang Guangning, Vice President and Secretary General of GAPGOC and Mayor of Guangzhou.

Huang Huahua, Wang Xinxian, Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin, Lv Shiming, Xiao Min, Zhu Xiaodan, Li Ronggen and Zhang Guangning jointly launched the countdown ceremony, which signalled the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games is heading intoan vitalpreparation phase for the Games.

Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC), presents invitations to delegates from 41 National Paralympic Committee of Asian countries and regions.

Mr Zhang delivered a speech at the ceremony and said: "The Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games is the first edition of the Asian Para Games, which developed from the FESPIC Games (the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled) and will become a new starting point for the multi-disability sporting events in Asia.

"With 'We Cheer, We Share, We Win' as the Official Slogan of the 2010 Asian Para Games, we aim at disseminating Paralympic values and humanistic values among communities which would admire equality, participation and sharing in the ultimate, by holding the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou.

"GAPGOC promises to expedite preparations for the 2010 Games, construction for barrier-free facilities and Asian Para Games education, presenting a great Asian Para Games as spectacular as the Asian Games next year."

Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin read out the invitation letter for the 2010 Asian Para Games at the One-Year Countdown Ceremony, inviting 41 National Paralympic Committees of Asian countries and regions to participate in and observe the Games.
