Guangzhou will build a large tourist resort with skiing as its theme--the Guangzhou Ice and Snow World--in Shiling Town, Huadu District. This is the first project of its kind in Guangzhou. According to estimates, RMB 200 million worth of construction will be done by the end of the year and the whole project will be completed by the end of 2010.
According to a briefing by the Shiling Town Government, the Guangzhou Ice and Snow World，located in Longgangwei, Qixin Village (to the north of Shanqian Tourism Boulevard, Shiling Town), takes up an area of about 167,418 m2 with a total constructed area of 162,430 m2. The total investment of RMB 600 million is funded by foreign enterprises.
The project is one of Huadu's key construction projects and is listed as one of the priorities under the plan for developing a modern service industry—part of Guangzhou's modern industrial system scheme. When completed, Guangzhou Ice and Snow World will mainly specialize in the operation of skiing grounds, an ice and snow park, snowfield museum, Children's World, a multifunctional ice hockey field, star-rated hotels and a skating ring. In its neighborhood will be shopping malls, food and beverage shops, large parking lots and other supporting facilities.
