City Volunteers for the Asian Games and Asian Para Games, including volunteers at different city venues, on-site volunteers, and members of cheer squads, are recognised as accredited personnel recruited and supervised by GAGOC and GAPGOC to provide volunteer services to ensure the smooth running of both Games and create a pleasant atmosphere in the city of
The rules and conditions following apply to individuals appointed as City Volunteers for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games.
I. Basic Requirements for Volunteers
Volunteers in the programme must:
1) be willing to serve as a Volunteer at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games;
2) be in good physical health;
3) abide by
4) be able to participate in pre-Games training and related activities;
5) be able to serve three shifts or more during the 16th Asian Games and the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games and be willing and able to take on the responsibilities given to them;
6) possess the knowledge and skills necessary for the post(s) to which they are assigned.
II. Rights and Obligations
A. Rights and Entitlements
Volunteers have the right or are entitled to:
1) get informed about the Rules and Conditions for City Volunteers for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games.
2) express their preferences regarding postings, before they are assigned to a post;
3) enjoy the basic work conditions provided for all volunteers;
4) the safeguard of their lawful rights;
5) obtain documentation certifying their appointment, and services provided, as a volunteer for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games;
6) participate in evaluation sessions and events honouring volunteers for services rendered during the Games;
7) give suggestions and advice regarding volunteer work;
8) withdraw as a volunteer, if necessary and apply beforehand.
B. Obligations
Volunteers are obliged to:
1) abide by the Olympic Charter and OCA Constitution and promote and act in accordance with the Spirit of the Olympics and volunteerism, the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games, to the best of their ability;
2) promote the outstanding Chinese culture and demonstrate the progress of

5) Work at the time and places designated by GAGOC and accept GAGOC's and GAPGOC's management and sincerely perform the tasks.

Applicants who wish to sign up as a City volunteer for the 16th Asian Games should submit their application forms to GAGOC between April 21, 2009 and September 30, 2010.
C. Recruiting procedure:
The procedure includes: applying, the review of application materials, Training and test, background check, signing agreement and sending offer.
The recruitment will end in September 2010.
IV. Training
A. Training
Training of volunteers for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games will consist of two parts and cover the following topics:
1. General Training - to be provided to all Games-time volunteers.
Basic knowledge on the Olympic and Asian Games
An introduction to the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games,
Chinese history and traditional Chinese culture,
History and culture of
Skills and knowledge required to provide volunteer services,
Skills and knowledge required to serve the disabled,

Basic First-Aid and the basics of emergency medical care

B. Training Methods
Volunteers can receive training through one of the following ways:
1. Long-distance training:

Training via TV or other broadcasting mediums
Training by correspondence

Receive practical training while providing services at social events, specific volunteer events and
V. Scope of Services and Service Hours
A. Scope of Services
City Volunteers will be asked to:
1. provide services surrounding areas of venues and in major areas around the city. Volunteers duties may include guiding traffic, information consultation and language services.

3. promote good behaviour at competition venues, assist spectators and cheer on athletes and teams during events as a member of a cheer squad

B. Service Hours
1. In principle, volunteers in city volunteer service stations will not be required to work more than two eight-hour shifts each day and more than 4 hours per shift.
2. Working time and shift of volunteers outside city volunteer service stations will be decided by needs and prevailing conditions.
VI. Benefits and Recognition for Volunteers
1. All volunteers will be provided with special volunteer caps and accreditation cards.
2. All volunteers will be awarded Certificates recognising services provided and receive Volunteers' Badges.
3. Outstanding volunteers, teams and organisations will be awarded honorary titles;
4. The volunteer coordination team reserves the rights to disqualify the volunteers, who fail to fulfill their obligations, remove them from the Volunteer Programme.
