Asian Games Town

Located in the south of Guangzhou, the site of the Asian Games Town covers an area of 2.73 Square kilometers. It is adjacent to Lotus Mountain and Lotus Waterway, enjoying an exceptional ecological environment.

Guangzhou Asian Games Town consists of seven major parts, including the Athletes' Village, the Technical Officials' Village, the Media Village, the Main Media Center, the Logistics Area, the Gymnasium, and the Asian Games Park. Each of the seven parts is a respective independent and physically segregated.

The Town has direct and fast road network linking all the venue clusters and easy access to the Haipang Station of Metro Line 3. Its radial transportation system can ensure the athletes, Technical Officials and media representatives to reach most of the competition venues within 40 minutes.

There are three entrances linking the town with the express ways: Jingzhu Highway and Ping Nan Highway.

Each functional section such as the Athletes' Village, the Technical Officials' Village, and the Media Village is provided with independent external transport system and parking lots to avoid any disturb.

On Nov. 26, 2007, the Asian Games Town broke the ground, and the construction is expected to complete in Aug., 2010. It will be pre-opened on October 25, 2010.

Athletes' Village

Proposed design of the Athletes’ Village

The Athletes' Village takes up an area of 88 hectare with a gross floor area of 460,000 Square metres. It can accommodate 14700 athletes and team officials. The Village is divided into three zones, namely the Public Zone, the International Zone and the Residential Zone. They are equipped with independent and state-of-art security systems.

The Residential Zone, which lies between the Lotus Waterways, provides a capacious housing space of 26 m2 /per person. Athletes during Games time can find there a favorable place for lodging, recreation and entertainment.

Each of the apartments has in-house mini-garden, spacious balcony and a pantry, offering high-quality living environment. And each athlete apartment building has a roof club and garden, which can be used as fitness center and sports lounge.

The facilities in Residential Zone include 45 work rooms for Chefs de missions, 45 work rooms for NOCs, one service center within each individual building, a 7,000-square-meter Community Service Center, a 1,600-square-meter restaurant, a 20,000-square-meter Underground Storage Center, a 3,000-square-meter Operation Support Center, a 8,500-square-meter Rehabilitation and Strength Training Center equipped with a standard indoor swimming pool, gym, spa and sauna rooms and a 400-meter standard ground track field and a 7,000-seat restaurant with 5,000 seats and a Muslim hall with 2,000 seats.

Public Zone is the External Transportation and Reception Center of the Athletes' Village. Its functional areas include Transport Plaza, Arrival & Departure Accreditation Center, Visitor Reception, Catering Services Center, Car Renting Center and Volunteer Services Center.

International Zone is designed to provide shopping and entertainment services to athletes and team officials. It is also the place for the host of welcoming ceremony for each NOC delegation. During the Games time, traditional cultural activities will be held in International Zone along the Lotus Bay, including Golden medal fingerprint, fireworks show, lion dance and dragon boat race. Through these activities, the athletes can experience an exceptional and unforgettable Lingnan Cultural tour after the tense competitions.


Proposed design for International Zone

Technical Official's Village covers a total area of 18.5 hectares with the gross floor area of 100,000 ㎡. It is designed to accommodate 2800 technical officials.

Each floor of the buildings houses two departments with the ground floor being stilted. The department floor areas range from 98 to 126 ㎡, with all single rooms, and the residential area per capita is about 35 ㎡.

Various services such as dining, recreation and entertainment are provided inside the Village, There are an independent accreditation center and Security Check Point, and a parking lot with a parking capacity of 100 private cars, 160 midi buses and 60 coaches.

The Media Village occupies an area of 45.3 hectares with a gross floor area of 500,000 ㎡. The residential area per capita is more than 25 ㎡. The Village itself can service 10,000 media representatives.

The Media Village provides a wide range of service facilities such as dining rooms, Muslim restaurants, religious services center, medical center and staff rooms etc. The parking lot in the media village has a parking capacity of 660 midi buses and 80 coaches.

Main Media Center and the International Broadcasting Center are built next to the Media Village for the convenience of the media staff to travel between the working place and the residential area during the Games time.
