I. An Introduction to the Volunteer Programme for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games.
The Volunteer Programme for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games, aims to recruit over 60,000 and over 30,000 Game-time volunteers respectively, for these two events. The City Volunteer Programme aims to recruit over 500,000 City Volunteers to work in and around Guangzhou during the two Games.
Games-time volunteers for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games will be mainly asked to provide volunteer services at Games venues (including competition venues, training venues and non-competition venues). Depending on specific needs at the time, Games-time volunteers may not be assigned to just one venue but may instead be asked to help out at a number of venues, at different times.
Games-time volunteers will be mainly asked to provide the following services - protocol and language services and transport, transport security, medical and spectator services. Other volunteers may be asked to help out with communication and liaison activities, provide support to teams organising and running competition events or support venue, media or financial management operations. Or they may be asked to provide assistance with staging cultural activities, all as designated by GAGOC.
City volunteers will be divided into three groups and be assigned to work in one of three areas – at a service booth, as an on-site volunteer or as member of a cheer squad. Service booths will provide language, transport and information services before during and after the Games.
On-site volunteers will answer enquiries about, or provide assistance to people having difficulty using public transport or other city facilities, provide assistance to the underprivileged or participate in programmes that protect the environment.
Cheer squad members will help promote and stage events at venues, provide others services at venues as required or provide vocal support for athletes and teams during events.
